JREDS strives to improve the state of our marine environment, the biodiversity it supports, and encourage the sustainable use of Jordan’s natural resources. JREDS's programs emerge primarily from a serious need to conserve and protect the cultural heritage and the biodiversity of the marine environment. We, at JREDS, firmly believe that it is our responsibility to reduce the pressure on the marine environment, and we can only accomplish this with the participation of all stakeholders. We strive to incorporate stakeholder voices and needs in all our programs:

Our Public Awareness and Outreach programs focus on increasing understanding of the marine environment and its human-induced threats. , Our Institutional Development program aims to build the capacity of NGOs and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) working in this field, as well as build networks among environmental institutions, nationally, regionally and globally.

JREDS also conducts Environmental Impact Assessments, to ensure that economic development in Aqaba does not adversely impact the marine and coastal environments. To this end, JREDS has undertaken field studies on the state of the marine environment in Aqaba. Under our WaterProgram area, we have introduced innovative water-efficiency practices for Aqaba in collaboration with the Water Efficiency and Public Information for Action (WEPIA).

Our commitment to stakeholder participation in marine conservation has translated into partnership with the local community under our Socio-economic projects. These projects seek to reduce economic pressure on our seas by working with artisanal fishermen and glass boat operators, by developing alternative income sources for fishermen, and raising the professionalism and environmental stewardship of glass boat operators. Our Geo-tourism projects aim to promote sustainable tourism and tourism infrastructure development in Aqaba.

Our Youth Intervention programs involve the youth in leadership projects, and intercultural exchanges with environmentally active youth of other cultures and countries.

It is the right of the present and future generations to enjoy our marine heritage and to live in a healthy environment. We, at JREDS, are working to reserve this right for all.
